FAQ

What is Life’s Abundance formula based on?

Our formula is veterinarian formulated that is inspired by nature and made using good science. The secret to our superior formula is quality.  Life’s Abundance is nutrient-dense, so you don’t have to feed as much as other brands to provide a higher level of nutrition. We use a fast cook process to help preserve every ingredient’s natural goodness.  All of these ingredients are selected based upon their unique nutrient content, superior quality and the way they work together to enhance the overall nutritional value of our foods.  Because your pet eats the same food every day, providing a solid nutritional foundation can make a profound difference in your pet’s life.  Poor nutrition can lead to a lack of energy, a dull and brittle coat, and many other issues that can not only be heartbreaking, but costly as well. Not only are our foods delicious and nourishing they feature an array of high quality protein for strong muscles, a unique antioxidant system to support your pet throughout their life cycle, omega 3 fatty acids to promote healthy skin and give your pet a glossy coat, a proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals to help pets thrive, calcium and phosphorus to support developing and aging bones as well as dietary fiber to help maintain digestive health.

What are “By-Products”?

By-products are left over animal carcasses and can include head, beaks, feet, feathers and bones and are not fit for human consumption. Because they are protein, current regulations allow then to be used in pet food. They are generally listed as one of the first ingredients and that boosts the protein on the Guaranteed Analysis. However, they are highly indigestible. Because they are indigestible proteins, it’s very hard on our pet’s kidneys and they have to work harder to break them down. Therefore they age the kidneys faster. Life’s Abundance never has and never will use By-Products.

What’s the difference between chicken and chicken meal? Isn’t Chicken better?

Chicken meal has a specific definition according to AFCCO (The Association of American Feed Control Officials). Chicken meal is the flesh or muscle of the chicken. It contains about 10% moisture and about 90% protein. Chicken meal can come in many different qualities and Life’s Abundance uses the best quality that we can buy. It’s a highly digestible protein and after feeding Life’s Abundance for a few months you will see the difference in your pet., even if you were feeding a different food that had chicken meal but wasn’t the quality of the meal that we use.  Chicken contains about 60% water therefore you only get about 30% protein after the water is removed.

I have cats and am concerned about Feline Urinary Syndrome (FUS).  Do you address this with your food?

There are many causes for FUS. As far as diet goes, you need to feed a diet that has high levels of digestible protein to keep the acid level in the urine high enough to prevent crystals from forming. Life’s abundance has digestible protein sources to help keep urine acidic. For years it has been misunderstood that “Ash and Minerals” were blamed for this problem. Cat’s that hunt and have a steady diet of mice do not develop crystals because of the highly digestible protein from the mice. You also want to ensure that your cat has access to plenty of clean fresh water.

Are there any special concerns when switching my pet’s diet?

Absolutely! Yes! These concerns apply anytime a change in diet is made for dogs and cats regardless of their age. Whenever a change in diet is made, it must be done gradually. This helps avoid the digestive upsets and food refusals, which can occur if a diet is changed too quickly. We recommend that you gradually switch to Life’s Abundance over the course of one week to ensure a smooth transition.  The best method is to feed ¼ Life’s Abundance and ¾ of the old diet for 1-2 days, then ½ Life’s Abundance and ½ old diet for days 3-4, then ¾ Life’s Abundance and ¼ old diet on days 5-6 and then on day 7 the transition period is over and you can feed the recommend amount of Life’s Abundance.

What about the level of protein in Life’s Abundance?

Proteins are the building blocks of all living organisms. Protein is essential for all bodily functions including the brain the heart the skin and the skeleton and many other bodily functions. Life’s Abundance cat food contains at least 33% high quality protein and our dog food contains 26% high quality protein. You want to look for identifiable animal proteins such as “Chicken meal”. You want to avoid generic terms like “poultry meal” which can consist of any fowl, as well as avoid poor quality proteins like corn, wheat soy or by products.  Because these proteins are hard for your pet to digest, your pets kidneys have to overwork and this leads to health issues. By lacking proper protein levels your pet will suffer by not having the building block to build proper muscle and tissue.

Is your dog and cat food safe in light of all the pet food recalls?

We are proud of the fact that we have never been involved in a single recall. We are meticulous about quality and safety and use strict inventory and process control to ensure the quality and the safety of our products. We only use wholesome ingredients and our products do not contain any artificial colors or flavors, corn or corn gluten, wheat or wheat gluten or by-products.

Why can’t I purchase these products in pet stores?

In a word – quality.  Life’s Abundance is shipped directly to your door which allows us to guarantee the freshest food available.  The food that you receive is, on average, never more than 6 weeks old. Our commitment to you is to provide the safest, freshest products.  When products are sold in stores they spend a great deal of time in transit, in storage and are handled by many different people and you loose control over the quality and safety.  Our products never sit in tractor trailers or in warehouses for unspecified time.  In addition, products that are sold through retail establishments generally have artificial preservatives that can cause health problems.

Why is it said that it is cheaper in the long run, to feed Life’s Abundance over other popular commercial pet foods?

Life’s Abundance is concentrated nutrition and contains no filler; therefore, your pet gets more nutrition by eating less food. Which mean your food will last longer often times twice as long depending on the quality of food you are currently feeding. Since our food does not contain fillers you will notice fewer stools( and less odor) meaning your pet is using the ingredients in the food to build a healthy body and your money doesn’t end up in the yard or litter box in extra stool filled with cheap ingredients that your pets body can’t absorb.. Since your pet will be healthier by upgrading to better nutrition you will have fewer visits to the vet with fewer vet bills.  The average cost of feeding Life’s Abundance round out to be about $0.37 per day for a 12# cat and $0.77 for a 30# dog.  Plus remember your also saving time and money on vet bills with a healthier pet.

What is the shelf life for Life’s Abundance foods?

What makes your treats different than the treats that I can purchase at the store?

Life’s Abundance treats are formulated with your pet’s health and happiness in mind.  All of our treats contain healthy ingredients so they not only contribute to good health, but they also taste greats… making each bite a satisfying, tail wagging experience. All of our baked treats are baked in a human bakery and have never been recalled.  Unfortunately many of the dog and cat treats on the market today are simply “Junk Foods” that can be harmful to your pets health. To add insult to injury many have been involved in recalls. “Junk food” treat can really have a big negative impact on your pet’s health.

In addition to our baked treats we also offer a line of chew treats that are made up using pork product which are so much easier on our dog’s digestive system.  Our pork products are free from potentially harmful chemicals, unlike rawhides which are frequently preserved with harmful chemicals.  Not only are our pork treats guaranteed to be safe, but appetizing as well.  It’s time to say “goodbye” to “Junk Food” treats and rawhide’s preserved  with harmful chemicals and give your pet something he or she can really enjoy…Safely!

Do you support any rescue organizations?

Yes! Life’s Abundance has established The Dr. Jane Foundation. This non-profit foundation is dedicated to the promotion, establishment, maintenance and management of animal groups all across the United States that are dedicated to helping to rescue neglected and unwanted animals. Each and every time that someone purchases a Life’s Abundance product, a portion of those profits are put into a fund that supports the operation of these organizations. We’ve already have awarded thousands of dollars to a number of rescue groups.  Together we’re making a positive difference in the world, one animal at a time! If you know of a worthy rescue group and would like more information about the foundation please contact [email protected]

I understand Life’s Abundance is made in an APHIS certified plant.  What does this mean?

APHIS (Animal Plant Health Inspection Service – which is a division of the USDA) means that the pet food manufacturing plant is inspected by the USDA for export to the EU. Very few manufacturers of pet food bother to go to these lengths to ensure the safety of the ingredients.
